Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences, was established with a vision to impart the knowledge of Ayurveda to one and all. The Institution took its inspiration from Late Dr. U. Krishna Muniyal, an Ayurvedic practitioner for over 40 years, who established Muniyal Ayurveda in 1940. Dr. U. Krishna was a direct disciple of Pandith Taranath, a great Ayurvedic physician, who had treated Mahatma Gandhi several times.

The Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences is run by Dr. U. Krishna Muniyal Memorial Trust (R) and is located in a spacious 50,000 sq.ft. building, housing the Muniyal Ayurveda Hospital & Research Institute, a super specialty Ayurvedic hospital.

The college intends to train the students in Ayurveda by using modern scientific ways, so that when they complete their course of study, they will be ready to face the challenges ahead without any setback. It will also encourage the students to involve themselves in Ayurvedic research. The college, with its strategic location, is ready to take all the advantage available there for medical teaching and paramedical sciences.

B.A.M.S. (Bachelor of Ayurveda Medicine & Surgery)
Duration: 4 ½ years
Admission Capacity: 100 students

M.D. Ayu. (Masters Degree in Ayurveda)
Duration: 3 years
Admission Capacity: 29 students

Our college is training students for the B.A.M.S degree course according to the syllabus of the Central Council of Indian Medicine New Delhi. B.A.M.S. degree holders are eligible for registration at the Central or the State Ayurveda Boards. Their status is at par with any other Medical Graduate in India. They are also eligible for appointments in the Central or State Government Public Health and Ayurveda services.

Duration: 5½ years

  • 1st Professional Course – 12 months
  • 2nd Professional Course – 12 months
  • 3rd Professional Course – 12 months
  • 4th  Professional Course – 1 ½ Years
  • Internship – 12 months

 

Medium of Instruction: ENGLISH

Fees: Fee structure is according to the guidelines set by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore and students will be informed at the time of interview.

Mode of Selection: The selection of the candidates is based on merit, i.e. the percentage of marks obtained in the 10+2 (PUC/HSC/equivalent) examination in the subjects Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Eligibility for Admission

  • Admission to B.A.M.S. degree course is open to students who have passed the second year of the Pre-University examination of the Karnataka P.U. Board or any other equivalent examination recognised by the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidates should have obtained at least 50% marks in aggregate in the PCB optionals in the second year of
    • PUC examination, or
    • passed B.Sc. degree with CBZ combination with a minimum of 50% average in the optional subjects and must have studied Physics at PUC or equivalent.
    • SC/ST candidates will be given a relaxation of 5 marks in the optional.
    • All admissions made by the college to first year of the B.A.M.S. course are provisional, subject to the approval of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka and the institution is not responsible for any loss in this behalf. Out-of-state students should obtain eligibility certificate from the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka within the last date of admission fixed by the University. The office will arrange for this.

Age: Candidates seeking admission to the first year of the B.A.M.S. should have attained the age of 17 years on the date of admission.

M.D. Rasashastra: This special branch of Ayurveda deals with various metals, minerals and herbo-mineral formulations. Here, studies are aimed at various aspects of preparations, including their method of preparation, process standardization, analytical study, experimental and toxicological studies & clinical studies in various conditions. Scholars have bright prospects in academic, research and also in the clinical fields. They can also be selected in various prestigious institutions & multi-national pharmaceutical industries immediately after the completion of their studies.

M.D. Bhaishajya Kalpana (Ayurveda pharmaceutics):- This is the branch of Ayurveda pharmacy that mainly deals with herbal formulations. Subject includes details of design and development of formulations, standardization, quality control, pharmacy practice, forensic pharmacy etc giving ample opportunity to prepare the scholar suitable for Ayurvedic and herbal pharma industry, R & D centres and academics.

 

M.D. Dravyaguna (Ayurveda material medica and pharmacology): Student will be trained with the details of drug identification, pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, evaluation of pharmacological activities, in depth details of Ayurvedic treatises on medicinal plants. Scholar will be efficient and suitable to work in herbal industry, medicinal plant research, academics etc.

M.D. Kayachikitsa (Ayurveda Medicine):- This is the speciality of Ayurveda medicine. Student will be provided with the knowledge of finer details of Ayurveda therapeutics from ancient Ayurveda texts with modern parlance and exclusive clinical training. Doctors will come out as highly competitive and successful clinical practitioners of Ayurveda and have an opportunity to open own clinics, hospitals, work in therapy centres and Ayurvedic colleges.

M.D. Panchakarma:-  Students will be trained with different treatment modalities of Ayurveda Panchakarma practice with on hand experience. Students will be trained with the planning and application of Panchakarma and other techniques like physiotherapy according to the person and disease. They have an opportunity worldwide to develop and manage Panchakarma centres.

M.S. Shalya Tantra: (Ayurveda general surgery):- Students will be trained with general surgical management including specialized Ayurvedic surgical procedures like Kshara sutra, Agni karma, Jaloukaavacharana etc. They have excellent opportunity to carry out specialized clinical practice in surgical conditions

Eligibility: Student should have completed BAMS course by any recognized institute by Central Council of Indian Medicine, New Delhi.
Candidates should produce the following certificates to obtain eligibility certificate issued by the UNIVERSITY:-

  1. BAMS pass or degree certificate issued by the University
  2. Marks card of all the University Examinations passed (First to Final professional of B.A.M.S. course)
  3. Attempt certificate issued by the Principal
  4. Completion of internship certificate from a recognised institution
  5. Registration from State Ayurveda Practitioners Registration Board/Ayurveda Council

Procedure for Admission:

  • A Applications, duly filled and completed in all respects should be submitted to the The Dean, Muniyal Institute of Ayurveda Medical Sciences, Manipal. The application should be accompanied by the concerned marks cards and other certificates.

Facilities & Recreation:

The college building includes a spacious and well-equipped computerized library, anatomy dissection theater, physiology lab, staff-rooms, and conference & lecture halls. The institution has facilities for education through computers, multimedia and the Internet, which will ensure high-quality and up-to-date education in ayurveda.

Separate Hostels for boys and girls, with food, are available. As Manipal is an International Education Centre, there are a lot of eateries and fast-food joints. For recreation, there is End Point, a plateau in Manipal, and Malpe beach just on the outskirts. The college will also arrange educational tours to Muniyal and other nearby villages for the students to study herbal gardens owned by the trust.

The college is located at Manipal, an exclusive University town, also called an International Education Centre, because it offers almost every kind of professional and non-professional course. Manipal is also a developing IT and BPO center, poised for exponential growth in the coming years.

Manipal is located in the Udupi District of Karnataka, on the West Coast of India, 60 kms. north of Mangalore, 330 kms south of Goa , 7 kms.  East off the National Highway 17 connecting Kanyakumari to Mumbai. It is situated on a plateau commanding a panoramic view of the Arabia Sea on the West and the Western Ghat range on the East. The surroundings are picturesque, comprising of rural farm lands.

The ‘Temple Town’, Udupi, homing the famous 800 year old Krishna Temple is 5 kms. away and is a hub of commercial activity, being a district headquarters. The well-known Malpe beach with its golden sands is 10 kms. from here. Udupi is also the epicenter for visits to important places of pilgrimage and archaeological sites namely Kollur, Dharmasthala, Mulki, Sringeri, Karkala, Moodabidri, Belur and Halebeedu.
